About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a Part-Time (Fixed-Task) Maintenance & Trade Officer to join The GEO Group Australia's Facilities Asset Team. Reporting to the Facilities Asset Manager, the Maintenance & Trade Officer provides a pro-active maintenance service that is aligned to the schedules, targets and standards of Fulham Correctional Centre.

Key Accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • To ensure that the work party operates within the security policies of Corrections Victoria and GEO
  • To provide a pro-active maintenance service that is aligned to the schedules, targets and standards of Fulham Correctional Centre
  • To ensure that the work party operates in accordance with Victorian State legislation and local Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies
  • Performance Standards:
    • Security:
      • Control of tools, materials and substances
      • Movement control and supervision of prisoners
      • Reporting incidents and information
    • Targets:
      • Provide 30 hours of meaningful activity per allocated prisoner/week
      • Provide control of stock, raw materials, tools and equipment
      • Maximize maintenance outcomes, as agreed by the Facilities Asset Manager, through effective and co-coordinated use of resources
      • To ensure quality of work is to a standard that would withstand scrutiny from external agencies
      • Monitor and maintain prisoner work standards and ensure that prisoner earnings are paid commensurate with performance and policies
      • Contribute to the development of maintenance schedules
    • OH&S:
      • To provide training, information, instruction and supervision to prisoners in accordance with the OH&S Act 2004 and the OH&S Regulations 2007, including Safe Work Practices, Job Safety Analysis and risk assessment
      • Ensure that the safety instruction and training delivered to prisoners is recorded appropriately and is up to date
      • Complete accident, incident and “near miss” documentation correctly and in a timely manner in accordance with GEO policies and procedures
    • General:
      • Liaise with the Project & Asset Coordinator and Maintenance ASO with regards to timely ordering of materials and equipment
      • Coordinate and facilitate the movement of goods to and from the work area to nominated locations
      • Provide relief in other vocational service areas if appropriate to skills as detailed by the Facilities Asset Manager

Skills & Experience

In order to succeed in the role, you will possess the following:

  • A Trade qualification and/or relevant experience, preferably with some Supervisory background
  • Ability to manage a work party, work to schedules and contribute to team plans and to achieve outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in, lead and facilitate a work group, lead by example, and establish and manage effective workplace relationships to achieve positive outcomes
  • Ability to set and meet work priorities and delegate appropriately within a team to achieve outcomes within time frames
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety issues and responsibilities including the ability to comply with, and implement, the requirements of the relevant Act and Regulations
  • Demonstrated sound level of verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and interact with people from varying social and ethnic backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems creatively and make sound informed and accountable decisions
  • Ability to work in a correctional environment involving direct contact with prisoners
  • Ability to complete quality inspections of the facility
  • Other duties that may be required based on the applicant’s skill set

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and work skills across a broad range of trades in the Construction/Maintenance Industry
